giving is the best gift

I'm sure you've heard it all before, but it is truly better to give than to receive.  I'm reminded of this by the Green Home Living Green Christmas guide's suggestion of donating to make for a greener Christmas.  It really makes sense!  Let's imagine that you're thinking about what to get for your bike geek friend.  You guys both like bikes, so why not give to bicycle advocacy organizations?  It has a very small environmental impact (as opposed to all the wrapping paper and boxes you'll need to surround that new Xbox in) and you can pretty much name your price.

I'm also reminded of this because I was thinking of the late New World Tourist owner Jack Carney.  I had previously told of his wife's courageous reaction to her untimely loss:  asking people to give to meaningful organizations.  Jack was one of many deaths among Bike Friday clients and among cyclists the world around this year.  What better way to honor Jack and his fellow cyclists than to not only give to bike organizations but give in their name?

Speaking of Jack, I never did include in that previous post any pictures of him and his bike.  So, in the spirit of giving, I give you Jack's Bike Friday:
